Chicago-based Max Stein published a unique and wonderful set of postcards for almost a century, depicting many of the greatest names in baseball, sports, entertainment and more. Originally wholesale priced at 35¢ per hundred or $2.75 per thousand, Stein postcards remain treasured mementos of a bygone era, even today.
The keys to the Stein set are Honus Wagner, Jim Thorpe and, of course, Ty Cobb, with example of each of these players commanding significant premiums over common player and even other Hall of Famers.
Cobb remains, without question, the greatest hitter in baseball history. To truly put Cobb’s career in perspective, over the final nine seasons of The Georgia Peach’s playing days, Cobb failed to capture a batting title despite the fact he averaged over .360 for the period from 1920 – 1928.
For the collector of pre-war relics or the Cobb enthusiast, this card represents a chance to own a classic image of baseball’s ultimate batsman, while increasing the value of your holdings significantly.
