The Delong Gum Co. in Boston was one of the first manufacturers to issue baseball cards with gum when they produced their popular 24 card set in 1933. One of the more desirable players in the set is New York Giant’s Hall of Fame 1st baseman Bill Terry, presented here in an outstanding PSA 8 holder. Hall of Fame 1st baseman Bill Terry is renowned for being the last National Leaguer to bat over .400 when he hit .401 in 1930, including 254 hits. Terry went on to finish his career as a .341 lifetime hitter, batting over .300 in 11 of the 14 seasons he played in. Terry’s classic pose, glove in hand, is set against the famous Delong stadium backdrop. Vibrant yellow, green, red and blue colors come together to provide a spectacular overall image, bordered by razor sharp edging, four pinpoint corners and pure white borders that are well centered, a rare characteristic for DeLong gum cards! The “Fielding The Bunt” playing tip bold black verbiage on the backside is un-improvable, and no surface blemishes are apparent. Overall, this is a brilliant looking, “pack-fresh” issue that reflects the ultimate possible aesthetics. While Terry is one of the most underrated hitters ever to grace a baseball diamond, his achievement of batting .400 places him in the same breath with the incomparable Ted Williams since Ted was the last American Leaguer to accomplish this feat. With that in mind, vintage cardboard enthusiasts actively seek Terry’s most popular cards, and his stupendous representation on the offered example may be his best ever!
