Playing for last place Boston teams at the beginning of his career, Ruffing was a horrid 39-96 when he was dealt to the Yankees in May of 1930. With the pinstripers his fortunes quickly changed. Ruffing would go 231-124 the remainder of his career, posting four straight 20-win seasons and recording 48 shutouts.
