One of the greatest pitchers not to be enshrined at Cooperstown, Bridges won 20-games in three consecutive seasons and twice paced the AL in strikeouts. Best remembered for his World Series winning performance in Game Six of the 1935 Fall Classic, Bridges gave up a lead-off triple in the top of the ninth, placing the potential go-ahead run in scoring position. The gutsy pitcher from Tennessee, proceeded to retire the next three batters, slamming the door on the Cubs, sealing the Tigers first World Series crown.
