“Joltin’ Joe” DiMaggio debuted in 1936, batting third in the Yankee lineup ahead of Lou Gehrig. He helped the Yankees win the World Series during his freshman campaign and quickly became one of baseball’s most iconic figures.

Joe DiMaggio’s resume, while familiar is worth repeating. He won nine World Series championships (1936-1939, 1941, 1947, 1949-1951), was a three-time American League Most Valuable Player and was named to 13 AL All-Star teams. “The Yankee Clipper” finished his career in pinstripes with 2,214 hits, 361 home runs, 1,537 RBI and a .325 batting average. Incredibly, in 13 seasons with the Yankees, DiMaggio struck out only 369 times. And had the Yankee great not missed three seasons to WWII, he may well have reached 3,000 hits and would easily have topped 400 home runs.

DiMaggio was flawless in the field, gliding across the diamond with a grace and ease rarely seen in any generation. His R312 rookie card remains one of the hobby’s most desired images and is coveted by collectors at every level.
