“A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” Jackie Robinson

No other man, from politics, sports, academia, science, the military or any walk of life had a greater impact on twentieth century America than Jackie Robinson. In an era where the word hero flows freely from the lips of the media, given at random often to those undeserving of the title, Robinson stands as the litmus test for what a hero is, was and forever shall be. Robinson didn’t open the door for integration, he kicked in, but did so with a dignity, reserve and grace that perhaps no other man before or since could have demonstrated. One the field, Robinson was explosive and exhilarating. Off the field, he was gentile, kind and courteous. To shoulder the burden of so many with such professionalism is a feat likely to never be repeated.
