Many still consider Blanchard the greatest college player of all time. The Army great was the first junior to win the Heisman Trophy in 1945. That same year, Blanchard won the Maxwell Award and was the first recipient of the Sullivan Award. Unable to get an Army furlough for the NFL, Blanchard joined the Air Force and became a fighter pilot—he would eventually fly 113 missions over Vietnam.
