Mel Hein was a fixture at center and captained the New York Giants for 10 of his 15 NFL seasons. In an era when players played all 60 minutes of the game, Hein never missed a minute, taking a timeout only once in his career—to repair a broken nose. The Giants legend was named first-team All-NFL center eight straight years from 1933 through 1940. He also earned second team All-NFL recognition five other times. In 1938, Hein was named the league's MVP, a rare honor for a center.
