Thanks to Thurman Munson, major league wash-out, Dave McDonald (9-for-62 in his big league career) has enjoyed 46 years of fame, to date. Munson was as old school as any catcher can get. From his soiled uniform, to his tough guy persona, to his hard-nosed approach to the game, to his command of pitchers, Munson drove the Yankee resurgence in the late 1970’s before his death. Reggie Jackson may have been “the straw that stirs the drink” for the Yankees, but Munson ruled the Bronx Zoo and did so by example.
