This extraordinary SGC 84/7 Babe Ruth Goudey provides a stroking red color virtually unparalleled by any of its peers! Fresh to the hobby from our recent near set Goudey find, only a modest favoritism towards the lower left edges may have prevented this card from achieving an even higher grade. More significantly, its overall eye appeal easily competes with nearly any other high-grade Goudey you might come across, far surpassing its very conservative technical assessment. Babe Ruth is not only the greatest baseball player ever, but arguably, the most popular domineering athlete in world history. Both his unfathomable records and off the field charisma governed baseball for two decades, establishing an unparalleled benchmark for any respective sport. Past, present and future, his name is linked to an iconic stature reserved for history’s storied figures such as Washington, Lincoln, Churchill, Stalin, etc. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that advanced enthusiasts scramble to garnish his most desirable artifacts including game used memorabilia, autographs and baseball cards. Regarding his cardboard relics, there are certainly a myriad to choose from but the cards highly sought after happen to be high-grade 1933 Goudeys, with four different subjects to choose from. Second most popular as well as valuable is the Bambino’s #149 red background batting issue, and this majestic heirloom surely resides as one of the most “pack-fresh” specimens extant via its unequivocal rich red hues and sparkling surfaces! So why is the great “Bambino” so popular and what places him as baseball’s “crème of the crop” immortal all-time player? Simply put, a significant number of his 714 home runs came when TEAMS didn’t hit 50 in a season! Before he was clouting balls into Yankee Stadium’s upper deck, he was manhandling hitters as a Boston Red Sox ace southpaw, and had he continued pitching, he would undoubtedly been enshrined in Cooperstown as one of the premier hurlers of all-time. Add in his incomparable persona including an unpretentious love for children, and you have your answers. Furthermore, this is why a myriad of collectors are obsessed with seizing his prized cards and NONE could possibly be more desirable than a high grade Goudey issue. Ruth’s majestic swinging image is a testament to his immortality as he watches another mighty wallop sail towards the grandstands. The robust red background is seemingly flawless, the perfect setting for Ruth’s iconic batting pose, and the edging is as sharp as the break on his curveball when he was dominating World Series hitters to the tune of 29 consecutive scoreless innings. Pinpoint corners would please nearly all meticulous enthusiasts, and only the image’s modest favoritism towards the lower left edging prevents an even higher grade. The reverse bold green print registration still retains its original luster, set against a super background, and no major surface flaws are evident on both sides of the card. We cannot overemphasize the significance of possibly seizing this world class cardboard masterpiece that has defied “father time” by retaining most of its original factory issued attributes. We cannot imagine many other Goudey Ruth’s providing the “jaw dropping” aesthetics radiating from this superb offering that suffices as one of the finest Babe Ruth Goudeys in existence, and like the “Bambino” himself places an indelible mark on the card collecting circuit!
