From 1944-1946, Newhouser was the best pitcher in baseball, an unstoppable force, with a temper to match. He won back-to-back MVP awards in 1944 and 1945 and finished second in 1946. Over the three year span, “Prince Hal” was a staggering 80-27, twice posting ERA’s under 1.95 and leading Detroit to the 1945 World Series crown over the Chicago Cubs.
