1953 was the first year Boudreau served as a manager only. The previous season, his last as a player/manager, he played in only four games. The one-time “Boy Wonder” had carved out a Hall of Fame career by 1953 and would manage the Red Sox until 1957. Never finding success as a bench manager, Boudreau went on to become a popular broadcaster for Chicago’s WGN, where he teamed with fellow Hall of Famer Jack Brickhouse behind the mic. Together, the tandem became one of the most legendary broadcasting teams to ever man the booth.
