No one will argue that Dodger HOF legend Pee Wee Reese was ever so popular because of his batting excellence. Throughout his career, Pee Wee did not lead the league in hitting or home runs; however, he led his Dodger teams to seven World Series appearances and their incomparable 1955 World Series championship. He accomplished this by his leadership qualities, consistent outstanding play at shortstop and timely hitting. All of these qualities merited him being named the Dodger captain and eventually to his induction into baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1984. His name is synonymous with all of the great Dodger players such as Koufax, Snider, Campanella, Robinson, Hodges and many more.
