Clarke’s style and work ethic made him a hero in turn-of-the-century Pittsburgh. In a city that believed in an honest day’s work, Clarke’s teams played a hard-nosed, blue-collar brand of baseball that kept them among baseball’s elite. Having Honus Wagner didn’t hurt either.
