Babe Ruth is not only the greatest baseball player ever, but arguably, the most popular domineering athlete in world history. Both his unfathomable records and off the field charisma governed baseball for two decades, more than any athlete ever dominated their respective sport. Past, present and future, his name is linked to an iconic stature reserved for history’s storied figures such as Washington, Lincoln, Churchill, Stalin, etc. It is with no surprise that advanced enthusiasts scramble to garnish his most desirable artifacts including game used memorabilia, autographs and baseball cards. Regarding his cardboard relics, there are certainly a myriad to choose from but the ONE card that is sought after most happens to be his 1933 Goudey #53 “yellow background” issue depicting Ruth depicted in a classic swinging pose. With that in mind, we are proud to present the most heralded and valuable of the four Ruth Goudey gum cards, in a splendid PSA 5 holder. Why is the majestic “Bambino” so popular? What makes him baseball’s “crème of the crop” immortal all-time player? Simply put, a significant number of his 714 home runs came when TEAMS didn’t hit 50 in a season! Before he was clouting balls into Yankee Stadium’s upper deck, he was manhandling hitters as a Boston red Sox ace left-handed hurler, and had he continued pitching, he would undoubtedly been enshrined in Cooperstown as one of the best hurlers of all-time. Maybe it was his obsession with children who he whole heartedly loved to the point of signing baseballs for them countless of hours after games. Add in his incomparable persona and you have your answers. Furthermore, this is why a myriad of collectors are obsessed with seizing his prized cards, and only a handful could possibly be more desirable than his 1933 Goudey, yellow background issue. Ruth’s iconic swinging image is a testament to his immortality as he watches another mighty wallop sail towards the grandstands. The radiant yellow background provides an outstanding setting for his renowned pose. The surface is super clean, with well centered clean borders as dominating as the sweet spot of Ruth’s bat connecting with another horsehide sphere. Square corners are only moderately touched and the edging is as sharp as the break on his curveball when he was dominating World Series hitters to the tune of 29 consecutive scoreless innings. The reverse bold green print registration still retains its original luster, set against a clean white background, the final compliment to a card that has retained many of its original aesthetics. Why not keep company with the “Babe” and hit your own home run by claiming ownership of this brilliant “Ruthian” offering that belongs in any high end vintage collection!
