Death Valley Jim was hailed as a combination of Cy Young, Ed Walsh and Mordecai Brown when he made his big league debut for the White Sox. While he never lived up to that billing, Scott did win 24 in 1915, while posting a 2.03 ERA. A streaky pitcher, Scott once hurled one of the fastest games on record, whipping the Philadelphia A’s 5-0 in only 68 minutes on August 29, 1915.
