Stovall was a hot-tempered first baseman who holds two distinctions in baseball. First, his outstanding scoop of a low throw saved Addie Joss’ perfect game in 1908. Second, Stovall was the first player to jump to the Federal League, where he actively recruited other major leaguers to jump ship.
