The Hall of Famer made his major league debut as a pinch hitter late in the 1949 season. Upon learning that he was not starting the season with Giants in 1950, Irvin proceeded to drill AAA pitching at a .510 clip with 10 home runs in the first 18 games of the season. Irvin was quickly recalled and never left the starting lineup. In the 1951 World Series, Irvin stole the show, despite the Giants loss to the Yankees, batting a whopping .458. Only six gray back ’52 Irvins grade higher than this example, with no GEM 10’s known.
