A wartime call-up in 1944, Wilkes helped the Cardinals to the only all-St. Louis World Series, going 17-4 as a 28-year-old rookie. Between 1946-1950, Wilkes was one of the NL’s finest relievers, going 30-9 out of the Cardinal bullpen. This brilliant and beautiful ’52 of Wilkes is rarely seen at high grade. This offering is the lone PSA 8.5 graded with a singular MINT 9 grading higher.
