A rocket-armed catcher with a solid bat, Kling was once called “one of the greatest catchers to ever put on a mask” by battery-mate Ed Reulbach. A lover of pool halls, Kling won the World Pocket Billiards Championship for 1908-1909 and briefly left baseball to pursue life with a cue. The experiment failed. And Kling would never be a starter again.
