Is there anyone in our Nation that isn’t aware of the great Ted William’s place in American history? Highly doubtful! His heroic stints in two wars as well as his status as ‘the greatest hitter’ the game has ever known has earned Ted iconic stature second to none. This Boston Red Sox legend, via his myriad of hitting achievements, captivated a country throughout his playing days, and it is no coincidence that the “Splendid Splinter” even managed to hit a home run in the last swing of his illustrious career. Poetic justice at its best for baseball’s greatest hitter of all-time!

The aforementioned accolades certainly attest to Ted’s legacy, and it is this reason why a myriad of high-end vintage card collectors seek to attain his most valuable artifacts. One of his most popular baseball cards is the 1940 Play Ball Play Ball issue with a classic sepia toned portrait pose of “Teddy Ballgame”. The presented card has been graded an outstanding PSA 8 with only 6 or 1.5% of the approximate 400 examples graded higher! The card itself depicts a wonderful sepia-toned Williams portrait pose with a super innocent smile radiating from “The Kid”. The ornate “Ted” Williams name along with glove, bat, and ball near the lower border of the card are boldly registered, and the centering, typically a major stigma for this issue, only moderately favors the upper left edges. As expected with a “NM-MT” card, both the edging and corners are blistering sharp, the reverse side print clarity and boldness is pristine, and no obtrusive surface blemishes are evident. Esthetically speaking, this is one of the finer 1940 Play Ball William’s we have encountered via the compilation of its numerous “pack-fresh’ qualities.

With virtually 400 of these examples graded by PSA, the investment opportunity to own a Ted Williams vintage PSA 8 card with only 6 graded higher speaks for itself. High end PSA Set Registry enthusiasts continue to gather as many of these pinnacle graded relics as their budget can sustain so why not take advantage of this awesome Williams gem before the price tag continues to soar to a stratospheric level. On a pure hitting basis, Ted was the “best of the rest” with most baseball experts in consenting that the “Splendid Splinter” was the greatest hitter in our National Pastime’s glorious history. With that in mind, the time is now to claim ownership of what may be one of his most brilliant eye pleasing specimens!
