Collecting high grade Hall of Famer? If the answer is “yes”, this is your lucky day because this magnificent T206 offering of Hall of Famer Clark Griffith in a breathtaking SGC 88/8 holder happens to be one of the most spectacular T206 Tobacco cards in our treasured hobby. Pristine in every aspect and worthy of Cooperstown, itself, the following census report data (at the time this was written) cannot be taken lightly: • SGC has encapsulated some 400 T206 Clark Griffiths including BOTH the portrait and batting images with this offering “1 of 2” SGC 88/8 examples with NONE graded higher! Furthermore, since the other SGC 88/8 specimen carries a Piedmont Cigarette advertisement back, this offering resides as the highest graded Sovereign Cigarette SGC copy! • PSA has encapsulated approximately 420 “Portrait” Clark Griffiths with only 15 or 3.6% of those specimens achieving a PSA 8 grade. While some of those 15 specimens are included in the “unknown” advertisement back category, there are currently NO PSA 8 Clark Griffith’s Sovereign Cigarette specimens with a sole PSA 7 copy the highest graded Sovereign example. Hall of Famer Clark Griffith was nicknamed the “Old Fox”, and while winning 240 games over a super major league career was more renowned for his 20 year managerial stint with four different ball clubs as well as becoming the major owner of the Washington Nationals. The ultra-desirable classic Carl Horner portrait pose is absolutely breathtaking, depicting superior registration and a sparkling blend of blue, red and facial colored hues. A vibrant orange background is un-improvable, significantly projecting Griffith’s hallowed image. The centering slightly favors the left edge with four dazzling white borders. Pin point corners, razor sharp edging and a bold green “Sovereign Cigarette 350 Subjects” advertisement back provide the final exclamations points to this virtually pristine masterpiece. Considering this offering currently resides as the BEST Cark Griffith SGC graded T206, it unquestionably merits a secure place in any “World Class T206 collection!
