The T205 gold border tobacco set ranks as one of the most desirable pre-WWI vintage sets. Distributed in 1911, many player variations exist including three different versions for Hall of Fame shortstop Bobby Wallace. The most common variation is (1) “with cap”, second on the rarity pecking order is (2) “no cap, 2 lines 1910 stats”, and the rarest version is (3) “no cap, 1 line 1910 stats”. The scarcity factor is substantiated by both the SMR values as well as PSA’s illustrious “pop” chart that indicates of the almost 300 encapsulated T205 Bobby Wallace’s, 60% are “with cap”, 23% are “no cap, 2 lines 1910 stats”, and only 17% are “no cap, 1 line 1910 stats”. With that in mind, presented here is that scarcest “no cap, 1 line 1910 stas” version in a solid PSA 3.5 holder. Hall of Fame shortstop Bobby Wallace played an amazing 25 years in the Major Leagues, with few people realizing this defensive “standout” was the 1st shortstop to be elected to baseball’s illustrious, besting Joe Cronin by three years. This mid-grade T205 Wallace offering portrays fine aesthetics for the grade including a stellar Wallace portrait image that is well centered between the popular gold borders. The standard gold border edge chipping is evident along the perimeter and the corners depict typical “VG-VG/EX” wear. No major creasing is evident and the reverse side brief Wallace biography and Hassan Cigarette advertisement is completely intact. If you are attempting to assemble a complete T205 set including all player variations, seizing this card would fill a major void in your ultimate quest!
