Donovan was a big winner for Hughie Jennings’ great Tiger teams, but he was the kind of pitcher that gave managers ulcers and gray hair. Blessed with explosive speed and a lively fastball, Donovan often pitched out of trouble. Upon arriving in Detroit in 1907, the right-hander quickly made his presence known, leading the team to the World Series with a remarkable 25-4 campaign.
