Jones greatest claim to fame came when his 1906 White Sox, known as the “Hitless Wonders,” defeated the powerhouse cross-town Cubs in the World Series. Recognized as a great motivator and strategist, Jones later managed in the Federal League, where he took the last place St. Louis Terriers and guided them to within percentage points of the league championship in just a single season.
