Any T206 Cy Young tobacco card is one of this prestigious set’s most coveted Hall of Fame specimens and why not?  Over a century ago, Cy Young set the benchmark for all other pitchers, tallying an unfathomable 511 lifetime wins which is nearly 100 victories more than his closest competitor (Walter Johnson won 417 games).  It is unbelievable to comprehend the thought of amassing that many victories, justifying why an annual award for pitching excellence carries Cy Young’ immortal name.  Similar to his “on the field” exploits is this astonishing PSA 8 Cy Young T206 “Sweet Cap” offering that depicts his famous “glove showing” pose.  Currently residing with a handful of other issues as the “best of the rest”, only a single other “Sweet Caporal” has been documented by PSA along with 1 “Piedmont” and 3 “unknown advertisement backs”!  Furthermore, attaining any PSA 8 T206 card is tough enough, let alone a Hall of Famer with only 1.9% of the total 125,000+ PSA encapsulated examples achieving this lofty assessment!

There are two accounts relating to the birth of Cy Young’s iconic nickname, with both involving the “cyclone” term from his inaugural 1889 season with the Canton, Ohio minor league club.  One stems from a young catcher warming him up during the Canton tryout who responded to reporters “he is as fast as a cyclone”.  The other is also linked to his Canton tryout when Young damaged the grandstand fences with his blazing fastball and someone remarked “the fences looked as if a cyclone had hit them”!   Whichever scenario is correct, the “cyclone” expression was reported in the newspapers with people simply shorting it to “Cy”.  Young’s accomplishments are virtually insurmountable, explaining why most baseball experts nominate him as one of the greatest pitchers ever.  It is inconceivable that he compiled 511 victories, logged over 7,000 innings, won over 20 games fifteen times and 30 games five times.  Add 3 no-hitters including a perfect game when he outdueled the great Rube Waddell in 1904, his resume certainly merits the highest accolades for any pitcher who ever toed the rubber.  His incomparable status as the game’s greatest victory achiever is similar to this remarkable offering’s census report pinnacle ranking!

The presented Cy Young T206 marvel is an absolute blazer!  His classic “glove showing” pose is a near-perfect masterpiece, highlighted by a vast array of gray, blue and green tints as the legendary right-hander prepares to unleash another one of his un-hittable pitches.  The illustration does somewhat favor the left edge, yet the brilliant central image aesthetics, bright white borders, and pin-point corners easily negate the minor centering issue.  The bold red “Sweet Caporal 350 Subject” advertisement is well centered, and only a diminutive “spec” of soiling is situated beneath the “S” in “SUBJECTS”.  The overall array of immaculate qualities place this Cy Young T206 at a stratospheric level, and along with a handful of other examples, it stands as the finest of its kind.   With that in mind, we highly recommend that you take whatever steps are necessary to seize this highest graded offering for your elite T206 PSA Set Registry compilation!
