Spooner’s story was one of the tragedies of the 1955 Dodgers. The fireballing lefty joined the Dodgers late in 1954 and shocked the baseball world, throwing back-to-back shutouts against the Giants and Pirates, striking out 27 batters over the two-game stretch. Sadly, Spooner injured his arm shortly after Spring Training in 1955 and never fully recovered. He went a disappointing 8-6 over the season and lasted only a third of an inning in his only World Series start, in what turned out to be his final big league game. POP Report: Highest graded example. 1 of 5 PSA 9’s.
