Phillipe was one of the great control artists of all time, walking only 1.25 batters per nine innings. The hero of the 1903 World Series for Pittsburgh, Phillipe pitched valiantly, tossing 5 complete games in the nine game series. After battling arm problems late in his career, Phillipe, at the age of 38, shook off his soreness and won 13 straight games to finish the 1910 season with a mark of 14-2.
