Popular Boston Red Sox southpaw Mel Parnell enjoyed his finest season in 1949 when he led the A.L. in wins (25) and E.R.A. (2.77). After winning 18 games his next two seasons, he followed an off-year by winning 21 games in 1953. Incredibly, the left-handed stud compiled a 70-30 lifetime record at Fenway Park, typically a nightmare for southpaws due to the short “Green Monster”. His representation on this remarkable 1955 Topps PSA Mint 9 card is, likewise, atypical for any 56 year old card, and along with a sole other copy, it qualifies as the pinnacle PSA graded example! Shimmering surfaces, blistering sharp edging, dazzling white borders, immaculate images and brilliant color schemes complete this cardboard marvel that has defied logic via its pristine aesthetic qualities!
