The biggest news out of Cleveland in 1958 was Rocky Colavito. The outfielder with the matinee idol looks had his breakout season, hitting over .300 with 41 homers and 113 RBI’s. The rest of the team was a .500 bunch, finishing fourth behind the Yankees just a game over .500. Manager Bobby Bragan lost his job just 67 games into the season (the earliest any Cleveland manager had ever been fired in a season to that point). Bob Lemon was released in July. A young Roger Maris was shipped off to Kansas City and Cleveland fans showed little interest in their team, finishing next to last in attendance and leaving cavernous Municipal Stadium more than half empty for the entire season.
