Although Allen & Ginter and Old Judges both surfaced in 1887, the Allen & Ginter Champions set is believed to be the first Nationally distributed baseball set. These ultra attractive cards were distributed in packs of Allen & Ginter cigarettes and included ten star baseball players as well as other popular figures of the day (e.g., Annie Oakley, John Sullivan, Buffalo Bill Cody, etc.), with a total of 50 different subjects portrayed in brilliant color lithographic images. Presented here is the most highly sought after Hall of Famer of those ten baseball players, the immortal Adrian “Cap” Anson, one of Baseballs true founding fathers.
