The on-going focus relating to obscure T206 advertisement backs continues to forge ahead with tobacco enthusiasts continuing their excruciating search of obtaining any possible eclectic ad specimens. One of those is presented here, a splendid SGC 50/4 John Hummel carrying the tough “Tolstoi” ad back. Justifying its scarcity are the COMBINED SGC and PSA census reports indicating that only 4 other specimens exist at this mid-grade tier with only 2 examples graded higher! John Hummel was the staring 2nd baseman for Brooklyn for two consecutive seasons and led the league in fielding percentage both of those seasons. The fine fielding 2nd sacker’s image depicts the finest crystal clear clarity and sparkling colors imaginable, with the image well centered between four white borders. Only four evenly worn corners account for the grade with the seldom seen “Tolstoi” ad back complexly intact. With superior mid-grade aesthetics, and one of the foremost imposing images we have come across, this cardboard obscurity would be a fine addition to any eclectic T206 gathering!
