he E102 “Anonymous Candy cards, including 25 subjects, qualify as one of the most condition sensitive card issues in existence. Issued in 1908, most believe that they qualify as one of the earliest candy/”E” card sets ever manufactured, second only to the iconic 1903/1904 Breisch Williams (E107). Along with Ty Cobb, the set’s most prominent subjects is, unquestionably, the immortal Pirates shortstop, Honus Wagner, and it is Wagner’s revered E102 gem that is presented here in a superb, eye pleasing SGC 20/1.5 holder. Any card of the incomparable 1936 charter member of baseball’s illustrious Hall of Fame demands attention, let alone one of his earliest candy artifacts. Due to the hype and value associated with the iconic T206 Wagner as well as his undeniable status as baseball’s greatest shortstop ever, the mere mention of his hallowed name commands unparalleled attention throughout the hobby. Along with Ruth, Cobb and Jackson, no other player’s early turn of the century cardboard relics inspire collectors more than the Pirate’s legend.
