One of the most significant cards in the prestigious T206 “Monster” Set is the Ray Demmitt “St. Louis Polar Bear subject that suffices as one of the six toughest T206 to seize. After Demmitt was traded from the New York Giants to the St. Louis Browns of the American League, only the Polar Bear company reflected this change in their tobacco issues. All other factory issues printed Demmitt in a New York Giants uniform. Hence, a significant T206 variation was born! One of the scarcest T206’s to obtain in mid-grade or better, most of the Demmitt’s in circulation carry VG-EX or less grades, substantiated by the combined SGC and PSA census reports listing a paltry 5% graded “EX-5” or higher. With that in mind, presented here is one of the finest T206 Ray Demmitt “St. Louis” specimens, a magnificent SGC 60/5 residing as one of only 3 at this elevated plateau with only a SOLE copy graded higher! Furthermore, PSA’s illustrious “pop” chart indicates that only a single “EX-5” example exists at this tier with only a handful of copies graded higher. This SGC 60/5 Demmitt exhibits spectacular eye appeal consistent with its technical assessment. Clear registration and superb contrast of the classic “hands on hips” pose is set against a background consisting of near-immaculate orange and green hues. The image is extremely well-centered between four relatively white borders, with only some diminutive soiling situated near the upper left border. The four “EX” corners portray some neglible even wear , the and no glaring surface blemishes are apparent on ether side. As a final exclamation point, the St. Louis version Polar bear back depicts strong eye appeal with the vivid white advertisement print set against a dark blue background. Bottom line is this offering provides the enthusiast with a high grade T206 Demmitt “St. Louis” variation card that has only been surpassed by a SINGLE SGC copy. If you are steadfastly attempting to compile a strong mid-grade 520 subject T206 set, this remarkable Demmitt St. Louis keepsake presents a rare opportunity to seize a specimen carrying the ultra-obscure “excellent” grade!
