Davis’ anti-management stance probably cost him a chance at the Hall of Fame. An outstanding hitter and even better fielder, Davis hit over .300 in nine consecutive seasons. Davis ultimately was a pawn in the early labor disputes between the NL and AL and was punished by Charlie Comiskey for standing up against league ownership. After the incident, Davis never hit over .278 again.
