Turn back the clock to early 20th century baseball to the immortal ballplayers that helped shape our National Pastime. Names like Cobb, Wagner and Johnson come to mind, but none could be more majestic than Christy Mathewson, undoubtedly the “turn of the century” Babe Ruth to millions of young American boys. Christy’s 373 wins are still tied (with Grover Alexander) for the most NL wins ever and his 3 shutouts in the 1905 World Series against Connie Mack’s Philadelphia A’s will forever stand as baseball’s all-time fall classic accomplishment for a pitcher. This along with 3 consecutive 30 win seasons including 37 in 1908 all support the argument for Mathewson being one of the top 5 hurlers of all time
