"Remember this, son. One percent of ballplayers are leaders of men. The other ninety-nine percent are followers of women."
-John McGraw One of the extremely tough T206 cigarette backs to find is “UZIT Cigarettes”. In fact, most T206 elite enthusiasts would concur that only the Brown Old Mill, Brown Lenox and Broadleaf 460 ad backs exceed the UZIT rarity level. Arguably, even the obscure “DRUM Cigarettes” backs are now considered less scarce than UZIT due to the renowned “St. Louis DRUM Find” several years ago. Substantiating that notion are the combined SGC and PSA “pop” charts that currently lists nearly 90,000 T206s with identified ad backs (63,140 PSA T206’s are listed as unknown backs), of which only 154 or 0.17% carry the extremely rare UZIT Cigarettes advertisement! Presented here is one of those ultra-rare UZIT Cigarette T026 specimens, an SGC 30/2 example of the New York Giant’s catcher Admiral Schlei. Currently, the COMBINED SGC and PSA “pop” charts indicate that this is one of only two Schlei UZIT Cigarette encapsulated specimens! Admiral Schlei was a fine defensive catcher who was traded to the Giants in a three-way deal that sent Hall of Fame catcher Roger Bresnahan to St. Louis. His fine representation on this T206 rarity includes a classic batting stance depicting vivid registration and an eye pleasing assortment of gray hues throughout his period style uniform. While the technical assessment is due to rounded corners, and some surface flaking directly above Schlei’s belt, the critical bold blue “UZIT” ad back including the small ATC factory related text: “Factory #30, 2nd Dist. State, N.Y.” is completely intact. Yet, as most meticulous collector’s clearly understand, the excruciating task of obtaining any UZIT T206 specimen far surpasses the assigned grade, justifying why this one of only two encapsulated UNIT Schlei’s merits a final resting place in any esteemed tobacco card compilation!
