Mantle wasn’t just an All-Star in ’58, he was all-world. In 1956-57 there simply wasn’t anything that could stop Mantle – short of Lew Burdette and Warren Spahn in the World Series. While New Yorkers would never forget DiMaggio, after ’56 and ’57 all they wanted to talk about was Mantle.
