To state that Roy Campanella was a key component of the Brooklyn Dodger’s late forties to mid 50’s run is an understatement. From 1951 – 1955 “Campy”, as he was often called, won 3 MVP awards and is the only catcher in baseball history beside Yogi Berra that can boast such a feat! Along with Reese, Robinson and Snider, he was the heart and soul of a Brooklyn club that was adored by their Brooklyn fan base. Had his career not been tragically cut short when he was crippled in an automobile accident, who knows how many more records he would have set for a catcher. It is the unique combination of on the field excellence and human perseverance that makes “Campy” one of the most beloved figures in the history of baseball.
