In 1909, the Philadelphia Caramel Co. produced a 25 card set including future Hall of Famers such as Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson and many more. Offered here is the great Honus Wagner on one of his most popular cards, and graded a PSA 4 with a (MK) qualifier. Simply put, Wagner continues to be every baseball expert’s choice as the greatest shortstop to ever live. His hitting, fielding and base running skills were second to none in the National League during the ‘dead ball’ era and only Ty Cobb may have been better as a complete ballplayer. In the baseball card hobby, Wagner’s pre-WWI cards are avidly being sought out by the most advanced collectors, and again, only Cobb’s vintage cards are comparable. However, even Cobb doesn’t own the distinction of being represented on the most prestigious baseball card in existence, the famous T206 Wagner that has sold for a record $2.8 Million. It is this legacy that places Wagner’s name on the top of virtually every card collector’s want lists, resulting in the desirability to add an early Wagner candy/‘E’ card to their collection. This E95 gem in a PSA 4 holder, provides the high end eye appeal collectors are actively seeking to complete their HOF want lists. Honus provides a batting stance image that is only reserved for the E95 card, unlike many Wagner poses that were used for various ‘E”’ card issues (e.g., E90-1, E92, E101, E102, etc.). The eye appeal of The picture is outstanding, providing vivid registration that is set against a yellow background. The borders are Relatively clean and centered 50/50 top to bottom and 60/40 side to side. The corners, while slightly touched, are consistent with the Vg-Ex grade and the edging is straight. No major creases are evident on the front or back and the checklist print is fine, easily outlasting the test of time. While only a slight erased area near the front bottom right of the card, we believe, accounts for the ‘MK’ qualifier, this in no way minimizes the outstanding eye appeal of the card. This is a great opportunity to purchase a highly desirable Honus Wagner ‘E’ card that won’t break the bank for five figures or more. Wagner collectibles continue to skyrocket every day and who knows when this trend will begin to move “sideways”. That is why desirable cards such as this E95 Wagner cannot be overlooked as an investment opportunity. We highly advise you to take your best shot at augmenting your collection with this eye pleasing gem of the “Flying Dutchman”.
