There are only a handful of baseball cards that, that by one simple glance, fully transcend time back to the origins of America’s National pastime. One such card is the eminent Ty Cobb portrait pose T206, portraying Carl Horner’s majestic Cobb headshot pose. This Cobb artifact is synonymous with everything baseball represents, with every aspiring enthusiast seeking to add one to their collection. With that in mind, presented here is a brilliant example of Cobb’s green background portrait, graded a very high end SGC 70/5.5. The T206 Cobb is listed as one of the card hobby’s top 250 sports cards, and no one would argue considering the accomplishments of Cobb’s illustrious career. Still the author of baseball’s highest lifetime batting average (.367), Cobb personified the overall makeup of a complete ballplayer, and was one of baseball’s five original Hall of Famers. His representation on this spectacular artifact is un-improvable! The iconic Carl Horner portrait pose provides brilliant registration and coloring, set against a perfect solid green background that is the more valuable variation of the two portrait backgrounds. The blizzard like snow white borders are centered a perfect 50/50, framed by sharp edging and square corners. A blemish free back exhibits vivid registration, completing this magnificent example. Careful review of this card makes one ponder the question…”why wasn’t this T206 gem graded higher”? Only a couple of minutely touched corners keep this card at its technical grade, yet the corners still appear strong enough to elevate its status to the “Ex-Mt” level. Regardless, we can’t imagine that any other T206 Cobb green portrait surpass the superlative aesthetics presented in this example. This is truly a superior remnant of the incomparable “Georgia Peach” with eye appeal that is “second to none”!
