The hobby dream of every elitist collector is to own a card that is the only one in existence. Unfortunately, with hundreds of thousands of collectors, this dream is virtually an insurmountable hurdle based on the simple “economics 101” philosophy of demand exceeding supply. If you have the “faith of a child”, you believe that every so often “dreams do come true” and this heavenly T206 Jennings PSA Mint 9 offering may be the cardboard masterpiece that solidifies your faith. Including both PSA and SGC, it happens to be the SOLE T206 Jennings “Portrait” mint card in the universe! None higher and NONE others at the hallowed “mint” tier! Famous for his “Eeyah” phrase that he consistently shouted from the coaching box (it means “watch out” in Hawaiian), Hall of Famer Hugh Jennings was the late 19th century shortstop star of the Baltimore Orioles. Teaming with such stars as Keller, McGraw and Robinson, Jennings played a major role in leading the Orioles to 3 consecutive pennants from 1894 – 1896, even batting .401 in a single season. Yet, for all of his “on the field” accomplishments, he is still widely renowned for his managerial stint with the Detroit Tigers where he won 3 consecutive pennants his first three years of managing (1907 – 1909). His representation on this T206 “Harris Collection” example is, likewise, championship caliber. The classic Carl Horner portrait pose is outstanding, reflecting vivid registration and a blend of brilliant colors. The yellow/orange background is stratospheric in nature, actually more orange yellow in texture, providing the collector with a uniquely superior look. The blizzard like, snow white borders are PERFECTLY centered, and the perimeter edging is razor sharp. No surface blemishes are evident on either the front or back sides, and the Piedmont “350 Subjects” advertisement still retains its original bold blue print contrast. All characteristics, in summary, are synonymous with the term “pack fresh” and un-improvable! In the world of card collecting, “pristine” is a phrase seldom used, reserve for cardboard examples that have reached the pinnacle of grading. Obviously, Mr. Harris was ultra selective in choosing his T206 cards because while this Jennings offering has not been classified as “gem mint”, we can’t possibly imagine any other card surpassing is breathtaking qualities, regardless of the technical grade. Centering, color, contrast, edging, corners, etc”…the list goes on and on with this card at the peak level for all. Let’s not forget the fact that the T206 set just celebrated its 100th birthday, and this museum worthy masterpiece would be the perfect gift to treat yourself to, instantly augmenting your collection to the highest level. “Eeyah”, or in plain English, “watch out””…this Jennings T206 may be the finest looking vintage card in existence!
