Behold baseball history. Sal Yvars rode the pines most of his career. But from the pines, he changed baseball. Yvars was the relay man at the Polo Grounds in 1951 when the Giants stole signs from opposing catchers. Yes, Bobby Thompson knew what Ralph Branca was about to throw. But Thompson still had to hit the ball out of the park. And without Yvars, The Shot Heard “Round The World might never have happened. The fact that this offering is an eight only makes the card as nice as the story that goes with it. If that’s still not enough, consider that only four examples have attained a higher grade than this card.
